Ken’s Background
Ken was raised in Southeast England, and moved to the U.S. in the 1980’s. His interest in photography began at an early age, with 35 mm film, his own dark room, and hours of time spent processing and developing his own prints. His earliest photos were all done in black and white, eventually progressing to color. He credits these early experiences with the development of a keen eye for detail, balance, and composition. This self taught approach has worked well for Ken, leading to many of the fine examples of his work on display around South Florida, and in private collections.
Inspiration
Ken’s passion for photography leads him to choose moments of beauty found in everyday life: Things others may pass by without so much as a glance attract his photographer’s eye. He tries to capture moments and emotions to remember in all of his photographs.
Inspiration for his work is found in the beauty of nature, everyday life, travels, people, theatre, even the works of other artists. Some of his favorite photography projects include photographing theatrical productions, nature shots from all across Florida, and through his travels around the U.S. and abroad. From sidewalk murals to sunsets to wildlife, portraits, landscapes and candid photography at events, there is always something that catches his photographer’s eye.
Where I live
The culture and climate of South Florida appeal to Ken’s artistic senses on many levels: The diversity of the cultural that makes up of this region, opens endless doors to creative opportunities in the form of festivals, artwork, cuisine, music, and of course, graphic arts. The varied geographic features of Florida, from swamp to sea, from forest to beach, and all their inhabitants are fair game for Ken’s lenses.
The reaction to Ken’s work has been amazing, considering he did not start to exhibit until 2008. People have expressed a great deal of surprise in learning that most of Ken’s work until now has been strictly for personal use. The encouragement of friends and family has helped Ken to bring his work to more public displays.
